RTTP…done and done

On a beautiful May morning, with the birds singing, the sun-dappled trees…BEEP BEEP BEEP
Oh, that’s my alarm going off. I was dreaming. Reality time. On a cold and dreary morning at 6:30, Ben and I headed down to Woodstock, VT for my race. It poured during the night but the rain held off just until we all lined up at the start. Then it started pouring and pretty much kept up that pace for the whole 10k distance. The trails weren’t that bad, although tough to see roots and rocks and such at times. No bagpiper this year because of the weather. The final 1.8 miles are downhill. That sounds good but it’s a pounding on your legs and it was slippery. I just let gravity carry me forward and away I flew! Only twisted my ankle once. The finish line was a mud bog and you had to take a tight and muddy sharp corner to get there. Ben said that a woman took a header, just glad it wasn’t me! But the bog definitely slowed me down to a walk because it was just too deep and slippery. I didn’t want to risk injury. So my time, after adjusting for the brief hold up to get across the start, and the slow finish stretch, was right in line with my time for last year, a bit under an hour. Reached my goal of not stopping or walking and felt good after. After a long hot shower and a bowl of clam chowder, I’m ready to sit on my butt and ice my legs and relax. On to Covered Bridges half marathon, June 6th.

Keep dry,
Amy

[Ben note: Here are some photos from the day.  The event is held near Billings Farm so I spent my time with the cows and wandering the grounds in the drizzle while Amy was toiling.]

Here she is at the finish.  No zoom on the iPhone.  🙁

Peeps were steamin.
