My man Philip Bloom did an hour long interview with the director of the TV show “House” regarding the season finale shot on the 5dMk2. I mentioned the fact that the camera was being used a few weeks ago.
It’s a good listen, highlights the many positive elements of shooting with these cameras as well as a few negatives. You can either stream it from the sound cloud or Phil has a download link as well.
I’d like to have the chance to shoot a narrative at some point. He’s right that the technology is just a means to an end, which is story. Or possibly visual art, but typically story. The few times I’ve sat down to cut together some footage I’ve tried to tell some sort of story rather than just lining up a series of random clips. And it’s hard. Especially when pieces of the story are missing because the camera wasn’t rolling. So I would like to set out specifically to tell a story at some point. Unfortunately, my creative skills don’t really extend to that. But I think it would be fun to try this summer.
I like, by the way, that Phil is using the same ShakeItPhoto app on his iPhone as I’ve been using.
