As it gets closer to being able to run/bike outside more regularly, I am being reminded of how dangerous it can be, even when running on a sidewalk, let alone on the side of the road. One thing we can all do to help is PLEASE don’t talk on cell phones or text while driving. Even at a stoplight or stop sign. I was on a walk last week and crossing in a crosswalk. A woman had stopped at the stop sign but was texting. She didn’t even look up as she started driving through the crosswalk (and almost through me). Even when I stopped in the middle of the crosswalk and started making frantic and angry motions with my hands, she looked up, went back to texting, and drove on. This morning, someone crossed the double yellow lines and knocked off my driver’s side mirror (they didn’t even turn around and come back). I’m not sure if they were driving while texting/talking, but whatever it was, it made me realize that we need to pay more attention and do ONE THING AT A TIME. I used to be more afraid of running into bears while out exercising (1 for 1 on that score), but obviously my chances of being hit by a car are greater! I think I’ve banked enough good CARma (I know it’s spelled with a K, just being PUNny) so I’m off to buy a lottery ticket!
Get off your butts and move (hands-free),
Amy

I’ve stepped it up on my running so I should be able to run with you this summer on the island. Are you on nike run site? the nike plus?
Amen to the finger! And just so people don’t think I’m a hypocrite, I don’t talk or text while driving. I pull over or wait until I get where I’m going. I am siked to hear you are running! Please keep me company this summer Running on the island. Would love to motor over to little cranberry and run the road there. Or run the carriage trails in Acadia while the boys ride to the top.
