I’m at work today, Sunday. I should be working, but it’s so hard when you’re here alone and the siren songs of the internet are calling.
Quickly, I devoured this news. If you’re a fan of House, I’m sure you’ll be watching the finale on May 17th anyway. I am not and will not, because I can not. But I’ll likely be implementing some stratagem to secure a copy and secret it away to my country abode just so I can see an entire episode shot with the Canon 5dMk2. This is going to be amazing. The Director’s tweet Q&A also suggests cine style lenses are on the way for the 5D as we speak. It’s unclear exactly whether he means a PL mount designed to work with FF35mm sensors or standard bayonet mount with cine characteristics, but it’s exciting! Erm, not for me, but for the industry as a whole. I’m struggling to purchase regular lenses.
The show 24 was using 5Ds to shoot driving plates, which is cool but not really main stage stuff.
It’s been a while since I watched this video so I’m not sure if it’s explained, and I’m not going to view it again so I can get back to work, but basically they’re filming all angles around the car so that when The Kief is yanking the wheel around like a mad man on a sound stage somewhere it’ll look like he’s actually driving, green screen style.
Anyway, House – check it on the 17th. Bear witness to the future!

Huh, I guess they alluded to cine lenses in that 24 plate video as well, 2 months ago. GG listening comprehension.
