This next tune is something I happened on by way of Anthony’s wedding two summers ago in the New version of York City.  We were at the reception and I was doing a sloppy job serving up music for people to get their dance on.  At one point I punished everyone with Ain’t No Fun by Snoop Dee Oh Double Gee for not feeling my grooves.  I’m not proud but I was already a little drunk. I’m sure my memory lives on in the minds of the other guests as that wretched short pasty white man assaulting their ears, then their eyes with my Scotch fueled gansta style hand flailing on the dance floor.

So sad.

Fortunately for everyone involved, a member of Anthony’s new extended family emerged from the shadows with his external hard drive, brimming with bright euro style beats, and immediately started exchanging jams for body movin’. Thank you, mystery DJ, wherever you are.

I took that opportunity to fortify myself with some additional Peat Monster and hit the floor.  At one point he played something I particularly enjoyed.  Knowing I’d have little opportunity to speak up on it with the maestro, I strategically pranced and twirled myself around the DJ station just long enough to pick the track and artist off the screen.  Then poof, I was back on the dance floor in a cloud of smoke – like a ninja.  Mission accomplished.

This tune he played was Since I Left You by The Avalanches but I do not share this now. No, what I share now is from the same disc and I played the holy hell out of it for the first few weeks after I got it.

The Avalanches – Electricity:

This was also the last time I saw Alex, but we had a really fantastic time as you can see.  I think he took this next one of us on the roof after the dancing was done. I love the feeling I get from this photo. Maybe it helps that I’m in it but it was summer in the city and the night air was cool on the roof and we were celebrating. Enough said.

I feel like I should do the responsible thing at this point and post a link to purchase said album.   Also responsible would be not presenting the track in the way I do, but hey, can’t win ’em all.  Look, if you’re using iTunes to download your music…. fine you’re an adult and I can’t force you to do anything. Things are a little better now with the ambiguously labeled ‘plus’ program but I hope you enjoy paying more for the pleasure and AAC.  There’s nothing wrong with AAC I guess, but my whole collection is in MP3 and I just like it that way.  It plays on everything. Get off my lawn!  Do yourself a favor, please consider Amazon.  Always cheaper, always free from DRM, always MP3. I should be getting paid for this.

Music also available via me ssssssssssh.
