Yesterday we broke out the new year-old XC skis that Ben bought me for my birthday last year. They sadly sat in their packaging in our garage all year because of last winter’s snow deficit. But the conditions were good yesterday so we took them up the road to the conservation land around Indian Pond. Check out the pic on the homepage of me in my gear. We went out into the woods for about an hour and a half. Had the place to ourselves. Another skier had been there previously and left a trail that was slightly too wide for us, so we broke our own. I have only XC skied maybe 2 times before, both over 6-7 years ago. So getting on skis was akin to feeling like a newborn critter getting it’s legs under them. Got into a kind of groove after awhile. Did some climbing and some downhill, which will take some getting used to. Managed just a couple of falls on the downhills, including a classic Randy from Christmas Story “can’t get up”. Ben had a good fall too, he who has downhill skiing experience, so we are both getting used to this new winter activity for us. Ben probably needs new boots because they’ve been hosts to mice and other critters in our garage for the past 7 years.
Hoping the weather holds, this weekend it’s supposed to warm up and rain a bit and we are hoping to hit the Kingdom Trails, to which I gave Ben (and I) a year membership for Christmas
Happy Snowventures!
