While we’re on the subject of photography, here’s another dude I’ve been checking out lately – Joey Lawrence. JoeyL to his friends. Not to be confused with, Joey Lawrence. I started with his blog last week and I’m just now getting to his proper site, so I haven’t seen his entire ouvre but I highly recommend his latest personal set from Abyssinia. Ridiculous. What I have seen suggests he specializes in portraits and artificial lighting, which is actually the reason I stumbled on him in the first place. Flash and artificial lighting photography be tough, yo. Amy bought me a really nice flash for our anniversary and I have absolutely no idea how to use it properly. It sounds so stupid. It’s a flash, you use it to make stuff in the dark, less dark. Yes, but also no. I’ll stop there because I’m already out of my element.
JoeyL has a tutorial DVD that I was considering buying until I scrolled to the bottom and saw that it was $300 and then I started to get angry. That’s just greedy, my friend. Like, am I crazy and bitter? Well, yes bitter. But no, not crazy. He boasts no formal training in his Joey FAQ so I suppose the take away message is that I can spend $300 on some lights and figure it out myself. Just have to… get out of [yawn]….. bed.
