My original attempt to record a mountain bike ride a week and a half ago was more or less scrapped. It was dark and rainy and wet in the woods. All of which conspired against the camera. My ham handed manipulation of the controls meant I missed quite a bit of the ride as well. The handlebar mount was surprisingly stable I guess, but still maybe not worth doing again unless the conditions were much better.
However, I did ride again this past Thursday and we had a gloriously sunny situation. The camera was strapped to my helmet this time, just to try something different, which I think is probably a better mountain biking solution. I’m glad the camera was rolling, so I can always remember this;
The jolt mid-fall is the back of my head smacking against a tree. I was literally a few peddles away from finishing a pretty long and steep climb when I got hung up on something and made a lunge for that tree with my hand – and came up short. The fellas I was riding with were pretty understanding when I thought maybe I’d call it a day. The physical signs of concussion never really came on but it took a few minutes to get my bearings again. The neck was already starting to seize up before I got back to my car. Things seem to be improving though.
This riding group is introducing me to some great new spots. On Thursday we cruised around the Union Village Dam area. It’s a big tract of land hemmed in by 113 and 132 and owned by some governmental arm, I believe. I quite intend to return and to conquer that hill for realz.
