breaking things

The suction cup and bike mount for the GoPro came on Tuesday, so I buffed up a section of the hood and drove to and from work with it last night. Smack dab center on the leading edge of the hood isn’t the most creative location, but I’m playing around with different locations and camera settings to see what results I get. I stopped for gas and decided to try a side car location. I didn’t really have enough articulating pieces with me to put it exactly where I wanted it so I just put it where it looked level. Should have wiped the dust and pollen off for that setup too.

I had wanted to get the wheel in the shot, which I guess I ultimately did. So there’s that. I was thinking at the time – ‘I can’t see this thing, I hope it holds on… what was that noise? uh oh….’

Everything held up surprisingly well. When I picked it up I figured it must have dropped off and tumbled once or twice based on the damage, but reviewing the footage makes it seem like it went through a lot more. There are a few scuff marks and the housing lens has a tiny scratch, which actually you can’t see all that well in the footage because it’s so close to the camera lens, but I’ve ordered some replacement lenses for the housing. I love the fact that all of this stuff is so compartmentalized and easy to mix and match and when necessary, replace. It makes putting this stuff in harms way less painful than being faced with replacing the whole shebang every time it takes a spill. I’m sure GoPro loves it too.

I’m scheduled for a mountain bike ride this afternoon as long as the weather holds. We had some heavy rain last night so the trail might be too soggy already. I’m waiting to hear from the group, but I’m ready with my handlebar mount in case we ride!

  1. The suctioning power on that thing is pretty strong. I attached it to a piece of poorly painted wood trim at work yesterday and it stood up to more tugging than I was able to exert without fully hanging on it. It’s my fault entirely for not wiping the surface clean like I did on the hood.

  2. It is refreshing to see that I’m not the only one at The Logz who breaks things. Finally!
