The rain held off on Sunday, breezy, flashes of sun. Somehow we always manage to ride INTO the wind, no matter what direction we seem to be going. Completed an almost 19 mile stretch along both sides of the Connecticuit River in NH and VT. A couple of big hills to challenge the leg muscles (and my patience as Ben is a much better hill rider than I am and it is frustrating to watch him jet up the hill with me huffing and puffing behind him. He says that my clipless pedals will help with hills. We’ll see. Maybe I’ll just let air out of his tires and watch him huff and puff! he he he). Anyway, here are some pics from our ride. Notice my lovely new cycling jersey. The landscape pic is taken by Ben from the crest of a hill on Route 5 in Fairlee, VT, overlooking the Connecticut River Valley.

There are a couple things – I’ve been riding for a looooooooong time. I may not be in great shape, but I’ve got a decent technique down. It’s not world class or anything, but compared to your single season of semi-concentrated road riding I’ve got loads more experience.
I’ve also got the clipless pedals, a bike that weights a good 3-4 pounds less with perhaps a more efficient drive system and a completely different gearing setup.
Try not to be so hard on yourself. 🙂 You did great!
I eat hills for breakfast. With a slice of my homemade Harvest Grain Bread, of course.
