I’d seen this before online, and even tried it last year at work. I think it either wasn’t cold enough outside or my water wasn’t warm enough but it failed.
Not this morning.
I wish I could have done this all morning but we were freezing and in a hurry to get to work.
It was -16˚ at the house and -25˚ down in the valley. Ye colde tymes.

spell check. “- 16 at THE house”
“he” is spelled correctly.
(I’m surprised the cars started.)
Thank you, spell checkers.
My car started up pretty nicely, but even after running for 5-10 minutes the drive train was still pretty soupy.
Amy’s car turned over maybe 10 times and then sputtered to life under extreme protest. Thankfully we’re looking at positive temps as the week progresses.
You have to shovel the drive again ?
That’s a good question. I cleaned up yesterday but I haven’t had to use the plow since. It’s seemed generally okay since I thawed it out with the torch, as long as it doesn’t sit for too long but we haven’t had temperatures this low yet. We’ll see how it goes the next time I fire it up… assuming it starts.
