Well, the ’15 in August’ campaign has had some setbacks. As I mentioned, I stopped entering my data into the LoseIt app pretty quickly. Maybe 2 or 3 weeks in. And while it’s true that I know what 1800 calories looks like, the daily shaming of entering my edibles into the app that I’m not getting does make it harder to adhere. So I’m only down 5-6 pounds which honestly doesn’t feel any different. I appear to be eating less than my body requires, but not enough to loose 15 by this month. Maybe if I buckle down I could get to 10 by the 31st.
The thing is I’m just always hungry. I mean, I don’t even know what it means to be hungry except maybe when I was at camp as a kid. Lots of running around all day, no snacks, often eating what you can carry through the woods. But really, there’s no excuse for the level of hunger. Maybe it’s lack of will.
I started chewing gum actually, in an attempt to keep my stupid mouth busy. I’ve also switched to decaf coffee. Not really so much to combat calories as it was abundantly clear how dependent my body had become when we went to California and I missed it for a few days. Also there was the mild unpredictability of the level of jitteriness I might experience from cup to cup. My hands were shaky all the time regardless. I’ve heard good and bad things about caffeine, I dunno. I really liked the daily break and ritual of heading to the coffee shop at 3pm. The decaf element means I’m not itching to get my fix so I’m sticking to the one cup I bring with me in the morning and thereby also saving $2/afternoon, $40/mo.

I think the “I’m hungry all the time” is also a societal issue. We’ve lost the ability to discern between hunger and appetite. I think adding some daily exercise (even just a short walk) can help with the overeating and feeling better physically. I know, dead horse and all.
