End Week Five

Short post.  I wrote a longer Prouty review post that you can check out.  Felt great after the 50-mile ride.  On Sunday, went for a jog around Lake Morey while Ben rode his bike around, then met up with me and rode alongside me.  Ran to Whippi Dip to get ice cream after.  Now THAT’S motivation!  Will run for food.  And beer.  Running is going ok.  Haven’t been sleeping well so tired in the mornings.  Will hopefully hit the CHaD course this weekend if there isn’t a thunderstorm.  My coworker who is running the race may join me.  I was listening to a podcast this morning and he was talking about the mind games runners need to play on themselves to combat fatigue, boredom, sometimes pain.  Also, when a runner hits the “wall” and has nothing left to give – how do you find that desperate motivation to punch through?  I am working on the mind games.  Someone told me that when I’m feeling tired while running, visualize “tired” on a piece a paper, in a word list, and visualize moving it to the bottom of the list.  Thereby making it less important.  There are more important “words” on the list to focus on, like “finishing”, “hydration”, “oh boy – look at that cool bird up there!” or “Mmm…beer will taste good today.”  Those kinds of words.

Keep playing mind tricks,

Amy
