I won’t be doing these on a regular basis but I thought I’d just share some thoughts regarding the mission. I’ve never in my life counted calories. And only in the last 4 or 5 years have I exercised irregularly to ‘stay in shape’. Or, stymy my decline. I once stuffed a chocolate covered pastry into my maw in front of a friend’s skinny roommate and she looked on, horrified at all the ’empty calories’. I shrugged. So the act of counting calories has been startling and new. I’m sure I’ll tire of it shortly. Who knew so many calories were hiding in our every day foods though? Yes, you. Nice job, put your hand down. Okay.
I did not. It’s surprisingly easy to max out my 1800 daily allowance. No wonder I’ve been gaining weight. Well, actually I knew exactly what I was doing by failing to resist picking up a bag of chips on the way home. But now that I see the numbers, fuckin A. I’m surprised the situation isn’t more dire.
The program’s actually not that bad. It just means no snacks. Or snacks in serious moderation. I considered eating out last night at work, but when I went on their website and saw how many calories were in it I passed. I still would have met my budget, but I went home and filled my stomach for 2/3rds the price. Then enjoyed a few cookies for dessert.
Also, if I ride my bike, it’s amazing. You can’t go on a ride around here that’s shorter than and hour and a half. So you’re banging out 1000+ calories right there. If you can avoid the desire to gas up then you’re way ahead. I mean, exercise and diet. It’s not a secret but it’s cool to see the numbers. Don’t ask me how the actual weight loss is going. We got a scale a day or two ago and so far my numbers are wildly different in the morning vs night. I’m going to try to make the morning, after I get out of the shower my control but there haven’t been enough of those yet to get a sense of what’s going on.
I have a feeling I’ll taper off on the part where I enter in the data into my phone. Once I have a really good idea what 1800 calories looks like I’ll probably play it by ear. It’s the way I rub my shekels together every month and so far I’m up. Waaaaaay up.
