I finally had a chance to see the House finale episode last night that you were all talking about. The one shot with Canon HDSLR cameras. The torrent was there all along, although I had trouble finding it before. Wikipedia said it was a 22 show season but the torrents topped out at 21, and didn’t start at 00 as is sometimes their way – these torrents.
As I was wrapping up my Lost downloads I decided to put the matter to rest and grab House 21. Turns out it was the finale. I guess… my bad? Somehow 21 = 22.
Right, so the show starts with the teaser I posted earlier and then moves forward from there. I honestly forgot the reason I was watching almost immediately after that bit passed. Which I think means mission accomplished. I’m still not sure how it stacks against a typical episode stylistically. Like, as a regular viewer I don’t know if you sat down and thought ‘this isn’t my House!’, but I wasn’t bumped by the limitations of the camera. Seemed to do a reasonable job producing what you might expect from a TV show shot this way. Maybe shaky at times, but you could say it was all part of the gritty and personal nature of the story. The moral of the story appears to be that it’s a tool you can use for TV if you need it for something in particular. In this case it was to get into tight spaces.
The show itself seemed okay. I think I expected more from such an award winning show, and from a season ender. Doubt I’ll be making the investment to catch more. Too many other things out there for me to hear and see and do. I like Hugh Laurie. He’s an English actor that I’m familiar with via tuff like Jeeves and Wooster and the Blackadder. Mostly comedic stuff. I think some of his subtle comedic mannerisms in an otherwise dramatic show are what make the House character endearing despite himself. Stephen Fry also in J&W, by the way. It’s hard not to love that guy too.

Jeeves and Wooster is a great show. They both are great actors and have appeared in other British sitcoms. They are also both in a movie called “Peter’s Friends” or something like that with Kenneth Branaugh, Emma Thompson. It’s a bit sad, but a good cast.
