Our friend Derek Diedricksen has self published a collection of sketches and ideas for DIY shelter and budget conscious building. The book is called, Humble Homes, Simple Shacks, Cozy Cottages, Ramshackle Retreats, Funky Forts (And Whatever The Heck Else We Could Squeeze In Here), and he’s got a website at Relaxshax.com where you can buy his handmade book and read more about tiny houses. There are a lot of good links from his site to others touting humble homes as well.
Derek and I have good conversations about water collection strategies and general re-use whenever we get together. The last time we visited he was showing me his latest backyard creation while the maple syrup he harvested bubbled away. Kid be in the lab always, goggles pulled UP.
I’m inspired by his collection and his passion for this stuff. Some day I’d like to get my own remote piece of land and start work on a simple structure. I think I need to bring the simple structure on a remote piece of land I currently own to a better standard first, however (lecture from Amy averted!).

Hey! I don’t ramble! I am simply the extremely anxious angel on your shoulder worried about money! But like I said yesterday, if there is land in Norwich or Strafford or somewhere we actually want to live one day, then we can talk (minus the lecture!)
When are you inheriting millions and millions of dollars so I can start planning our Norwich/Strafford land grab accordingly? Or are we talking post apocalypse where any land you clear of zombies is yours!?
I see your plan…argue with me via blog and hopefully I’ll feel the social pressure to cave in so we look good in writing for others. You are so sneaky! 😉
ps: you failed to take into account that I can hold my breath for longer than you 🙂
ooooo! I made little emoticons! How exciting! I didn’t even mean to :::))) (This is my super happy smile…I wonder what this will make?)
uh…it made nothing. Very disappointing 🙁
It’s high time the 1 visitor to this site sees you for who you really are!
