So part two of my summer triad is completed. Covered Bridges done and done. Except it almost did Ben and I (and my parents) in with the disaster that was the parking arrangements. Pre-race emails referenced that they had improved things in this area over last year, when traffic was held up for over 1.5 hours. Ummmm it took at least a half hour out of the first lot and while Ben and I were in line for lunch (post race meal of breakfast burrito with organic eggs, beans, cheese) we saw the end of the line for cars where my car was parked. That was an hour later. Mmm. One and a half hours. Still the same this year! I really don’t mean to complain. Ok, I guess I do. If the weather was nicer we could’ve just hung out at the post race party. But after running the entire time in the pouring rain I just wanted to eat and go home. After the horrible week I had, I’m tapped emotionally. Hence the bitching and whining. OKAY. Enough. Let me tell you the good parts. Which basically was the race and the runnning. The course is great, lots of downhill (which isn’t as easy as sounds after 10 miles of running) with a couple hills thrown in to keep you humble. Ran through 1 covered bridge and by a couple others. Ran on dirt roads for a bit and past horses running in a field. Lots of spectators and bands along the way. Didn’t get to run with Nigel because of the weather so good breath training and mind training. Field was packed for the first few miles then opened up a bit. Took over 2 min to get over the start line due to the number of runners. Ran the whole race at a consistent pace which made me happy. Legs got tired and hips sore around mile 10 but pushed on and finished with my fastest half time yet of a bit over 2:11 (by my watch). Would I run it again? Yes. The course was a delight and the scenery was nice. Next time get dropped off at start and park at Simon Pearce restaurant and walk from the finish. Ben and I took some pics and a video of Ben tearing the parking field up after lunch to let them know our ire. He’ll post them soon. Onwards to CHaD!
Resting,
Amy
